Hi all.
Has anyone used PS Elements 5 yet? I have Elements 3 and really like it, I never felt the need to upgrade to 4. If Elements 5 has the curves dialog now, that might be what I needed to prod me into upgrading.
I read on the Adobe site that it has some 'curves editing', I just did not want some preselected options, I want the whole curves dialog.

I'm still on PSE2.
Until PSE has the ability to do full 16 bit in adjustment layers, and curves too (I'm not applying curves to the main layer!), and also layer masks on image layers, I see no reason to upgrade. One of these days I'll have to buy CS--maybe when CS3 comes out in the spring.
I'm curious--does PSE3 have the ability to add layer masks to image layers, or is there a hack for it? I've found hacks online to allow this in PSE1 and PSE2, but not PSE3...

I use PSE 3 and found a set of tools at earthbound light to handle layer masking directly on the layer, curve, channel mixer and a couple other mainline PS tools. I just searched Google for "Elements 3" and Curves.
There is a trick to creating layer masks even without the layer mask hack though. If you insert an adjustment layer between your two image layers and then use "group with previous" on the image you wish to mask, it will work like a normal image layer mask in regular PS.
PSE 3 does not have 16 bit support outside of contrast, saturation, levels, cropping types of changes. You can't use any brushes, cloning, etc on 16 bit. I beleive that PSE 4 added 16 bit editing support, but they made it harder to get the curves and the other functions I mentioned to work inside elements (they closed a loophole). PSE 4 also added a very irritating auto red eye fixer that tries to fix redeye as it adds images to the catalog. Seeing as how I take almost no pictures with people in them, and even fewer with flash, the red eye script is not exactly my favorite.
I'd like the 16 bit support, but I'm not willing to get rid of the other functions to get it.

I will admit that I am not using even as much of PSE as you guys mention Paul and Mel. I have not explored the 16 bit side of the fence at this point.
I guess I need to read up some more!

Nathan, look in http://www.photo-i.co.uk/ for a quick overview. Does have limited curves, but no mention of 16bit handling.
