I'm planning to buy a hide for bird photography. I'm looking at Ameristep 804 Tangle Camo Outhouse Blind.

Any experiences & recommendations? Should I buy the High Back Camo Chair as well?
Let me know

I have that blind, which I purchased from Cabella's and have had the chair for years. I love the blind, it is light and easy to carry and to set up and take down. The chair is not good. It has a bar across the front which can cut off the blood flow from your legs and is too small for many men. I would go with a canvas "director's chair" which is much more durable, comfortable and safe for long sits. I got my director's chair from a local Cenex gas station (in camo) for about $7.00. If you plan to leave the blind set up for more than a few hours you should invest in some better stakes as the ones which come with the blind are too light and easily pulled out by wind. I use rebar "Ts" for stakes and they work great. I bought the rebar at Home Depot and had a welder put the cross pieces on top.

I have the Outhouse blind as well as the Doghouse blind and Cabela's Lightning Set Rifleman blind. Of the three I use the Rifleman blind probably 90% of the time. One problem with the Outhouse blind is that it is not free standing--to stay up, it must be staked down. It is also taller and presents a more obvious profile (more noticeable by some wildlife). About the only time I use the Outhouse is when I need to photograph from a standing position for the proper perspective (i.e. to avoid a bright sky background vs foliage background). All other times I use the Rifleman. The Lightning Set Rifleman blind is just slightly smaller than the Doghouse blind and much simpler to set up and take down. Because of this I seldom use the Doghouse blind. The only disadvantage with the Rifleman and Doghouse blinds are that you can't photograph from a standing position (so when I need to do that, I use the Outhouse)
To get a look at the Doghouse blind and Lightning Set Rifleman Blind go to http://www.cabelas.com and do a search for "doghouse blind" and Lightning Set blind". There is a video for the larger Lightning set blind that shows how easily they set up. However, I wouldn't recommend buying one of the two larger blinds, they are too big. The Rifleman is really the right size for a one-person blind.
