NENP meeting - successful!
Thank you to Jim Deasey for arranging a successful weekend. The photography advice I received from everyone was very helpful! We had a lot of good technical information over the weekend with regard to waterfalls and wanted to look at the photos to see what worked best before taking more, so we headed over the Crawford Notch. There was a spot at the eastern end of the notch with a field of asters. It was only 7 am and cloudy/misty, so there was not much light, but this is a shot of the area. I did not get a good depth of field so the trees are not in focus, but if anyone is going up this week for the foliage, this is a spot that could be nice! In better weather, Mt. Washington would be visible in the background.

We also were able to find some lakes with reflections that would have been beautiful in the right light. We did get our chance at photographing birds - in Conway we found Black Throated Green Warblers, Yellow Rumped Warblers, Palm Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and Carol even got a blue-headed vireo. That's where the rain started for us on the trip, so we called it a day and headed home. Would have liked to have had breakfast with everyone, but our favorite breakfast place was closed!

We enjoyed learning to take waterfall pictures and I'm anxious to see how the view of Mt. Washington with the river in the foreground comes out. The evening slideshow was nice, too. There were some wonderful photos.

It was great meeting everyone and I'm inspired to keep snapping the shutter!

Thanks Pat for posting about the weekend. I was planning on emailing you about it. If you feel like it, tell me more. I really did think about you guys all weekend. I just might be able to make the second trip!! We'll see, on the 10th I go for a consultation for a cataract.

:toast: to a good trip!!

Pam,

It was good to meet Carol and you this weekend. I love the field of astors. The light at 7 AM was very gloomy in Francnia and looks like it was even darker in Crawford Notch. I am amazed that this field of astors looks so healthy since I believe that have had a killing frost already. Keep shooting.

Pat,
Nice find with the asters! I think a very light touch with the shadow highlight tool on a duplicate copy in another layer of the background would brighten up the asters and darken the ligher part of the sky to even out the photo a bit. I am sorry I didn't get a chance to show you some PS tricks like what I am suggesting!

Wow, great find with the asters...I like the foreground alot. I think Michelle is right on about brightening it up to enhance the scene...otherwise great!!!

Thanks for the tips! The asters looked like they had a lot of life in them yet - I'd like to see what the scene looks like on a day with some light and a view of Mt. Washington!

Pat....

I like the way you set this shot up with the asters against the foliage in the background.

Nice image! Now I see why you wanted to get back there before the downpour. We also found some good shooting at Franconia Notch, both the basin and the flume. NH has some beautiful areas with amazing scenery. It was nice meeting you and Carol. By the way you had wonderful images in your slide presentation. I'm impressed!
