I made my first run out to Cataloochee last night with some new friends and all I can say is WOW. The elk were bugling and it was incredible. There was this one male who was louder and apparently prouder than the other males. lol He really put on a show. Got there I would say around 5pm and it was nice a cool and had really good light. We photographed this first group for 45 min or so, then moved down the road to the very end and found another big group. That male was great to photograph too. There were at least 4 younger calves that did not have a colar on them, one or two still with spots. They were so cute. The first group had 2 really young ones with them, adorable. We left around 7ish and there were more males coming out of the woods into the fields, but the light was going and wanted to get down that little dirt road before it got too dark. What a wonderful place, I plan to go back again soon and get the buildings and enjoy the elk more. Get out there soon if you can. Working on photos right now, took over 500 shots. Will try to get a shot up later today.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. They tend to rut a little later here because the weather is milder. I was wondering if they had started bugling. Now post some pics!

It was very pretty there, at the very end of the road was the best fall coloring to me. . I am trying to work on photos. Went to Cherohala skyway today. It was very pretty, but not as pretty to me as Roan Mtns last week. That was incredible fall colors! I talked to a friend today who said they had went on the Newfound Gap road yesterday and it was very beautiful. They felt peak is just a few days away there. I have not yet gone, hoping to get to Cades Cove tommorrow evening or Thursday morning. I am new to all this stuff since just moving up here 3 months ago, so I am not an expert to know peak from non peak. To me, it all looks beautiful right now and gets better each week.
