I tried this shot sometime in the spring. Unfortunately don't remember the id of the flower. This was shot with a closeup filter on the canon 100-300 mm zoom. Welcome your comments on the pic.

Pretty flower, perhaps more DOF and closer to really pull it off.?

Nice first attempt pradeep. The colors are cool but I do agree with what Jeremy said. If you like this type of photography, maybe a macro lens could be in your future plans.

a bit soft but that is going to happen using a diopter on the front of the lens. If extension tubes are avalible for your Cannon that is another option. A tighter crop would help also.
Nice 1st try. Macro does take some practice. You don't need expensive lenses (filters or a reversed lens are great starting tools), but aperture and lighting really have a huge effect at this level. To get more in focus you'll need to use a fill flash take or longer exposures. Keep at it, you're off to a good start.
Thanks guys, yeah photographing flowers is quite interesting. However right now I don't have the money for a macro lens, so will wait for a while. In the meanwhile will be shooting with the current lens and filter.
I agree with the previous comments re DOF, move in closer or get more magnification with an extension tube. I tried close up filters, too; much happier with a macro lens (105mm) or an extension tube(s) on my 70-200 or 300 lenses. IMO this is a good attempt at a flower "portrait." In that case, it works better, IMO, to have more of the subject in focus. I would suggest including a part of the stem so that it doesn't have the "floating in mid-air" look. The background is nicely OOF and isolates the flower well. I hope you keep trying; flowers are a rewarding subject.
