Hi all, I've been chatting with a few fellow members about forming a series of gatherings to learn some of the neat tricks in photoshop hands on, we could also hang out and shoot the breeze, talk shop, etc.

I thought maybe we could set up a "night of the week and time" that works for most people and stick to that night monthly or bi-monthly.
I could host the first gathering at my house, the second could be at someone elses house, go down the list, etc.

We'd like to gage interest so reply here if you think you'd like to be part of the group and let us know what topics you'd like to see included.

I'd like to see all participants perhaps demonstrate their own workflow. That would be interesting.

I'd be interested, too, in what Ned said. Or maybe one image we could all work on and learn each other's technique.

I'm interested. I might not make it to every meeting, but I'd make it to a lot of them.

I like Ned and Kevin's ideas.

A session on mounting and matting would be usefull as well.

Where and when ? I can't make next Friday but most any other time would work.

Great ideas so far guys!

John, the where will be my house in Vancouver for the first gathering (address will be e-mailed to all those participating). The when is still up in the air. I'm leaning toward a tuesday, wednesday, or thursday evening at around 6:30 or 7:00pm to maybe 9:00-9:930. Probably have the first one in about two weeks. That'l give people time to check schedules, mark their calender, etc.

Depending on the amount of people that join us we might use the family room and TV if the office gets to cramped. We could all just sit back and easily see whats on the screen.

tuesday and thursday are best for me. I could juggle a wednesday or friday once a month if necessary. mondays are impossible for the next several months.

I can certainly host a similar event in the Seattle area for those who are intersted up here. I think we could all benefit from such a program!!!! And yes I too have a far too big plasma screen we can all view... So please post your interest in participating in a similar program in Puget Sound.

I also will provide Hood River Coffee - of course!!

I'd be interested. Generally, Monday through Thursday nights would work for me in most cases.

Also interested, I always have something to learn or share.

How does Tuesday the 17th sound to everyone? Say, 7:00-9:00.
Posted by Rick Lundh on October 6, 2006 at 11:15 AM
I'll be there. This sounds like a good idea. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and also how this works out. Looks like your TV would be the best bet. Let's talk about the most important thing...Food! Should we eat b4 or will we chip in and get a pizza? Maybe if there is a local pizza place, we could meet there by 5:30 or something...I dont know, just throwing out ideas.
Posted by Eric Hahl on October 6, 2006 at 11:24 AM
My thoughts are to let people take care of feeding themselves before the meeting. Thats why I mentioned 7:00pm would be a good time to meet. It gives people a chance to get home from work, eat, and then drive to the meeting place. This time its my place in Vancouver, next time it might be your place in West Lynn or someone elses place wherever they live.

I figured we'd have some munchies and beverages for everyone here. Hows that sound?
Posted by Rick Lundh on October 6, 2006 at 11:33 AM
sounds like a plan!
Posted by eric lee on October 6, 2006 at 11:46 AM
I look forward to meeting you all on the 17th.
Posted by Eric Hahl on October 6, 2006 at 12:16 PM
Hey everyone. I can't send a photo on this sites e-mail link so send me an e-mail and I'll reply with the address and a map showing how to get there. Its really easy to miss the driveway so I drew some arrows and such on a satelite image for ya.
Posted by Ned Fenimore on October 6, 2006 at 12:17 PM
Sounds good. Hopefully by then I will have a new laptop with CS loaded on it....
Posted by Curtis Knight on October 6, 2006 at 12:43 PM
Count me in Erik!
I like the idea of letting us feed ourselves. that way we can concentrate on the subject matter... uh... who's bringing the single malt?

BTW: I'm willing to host at my place as well. There are a couple problems though:
1) Although we have a huge family room, we don't have a big screen, and the space containing my computer is too confined. (unless maybe I could rent something... hmmm)
2) Vernonia is a long drive for everyone on the forum except me.

Advantages and possible subject matter:
There is a lot to shoot in the area if folks arrived early.
I have a Logan matte cutter so I could host matte cutting/mounting/framing session(s).

Anyway, just wanted to let it be known that Marie and I are willing and able to host, but it might not be very practical...
Posted by Eric Hahl on October 6, 2006 at 12:56 PM
Wow, Vernonia is a ways out there Curtis. Perhaps we could do a weekend day sometime to have a meeting/shoot session. We could certainly talk about cutting/mounting and framing on that session. It would eliminate the need for a computer or big screen. We'll all chat about it and other ideas at the upcoming meeting on the 17th.
Posted by eric lee on October 6, 2006 at 3:06 PM
Thanks to Curtis for mentioning the matte cutter, let's stay in touch about that. I've got one too, and some other matting/framing stuff that I haven't learned to use yet. And I'm in SE PDX and can host, provided somebody else brings all the knowledge. Wednesday evenings are best for me. Want to talk about that when we meet for photoshopping?
Posted by Ned Fenimore on October 6, 2006 at 4:08 PM
I've cut a few mats, and can show what I do with them..
Posted by Sean Hyde on October 6, 2006 at 6:15 PM
I can make it to the Lamb abode if I know a couple days ahead of time. Thanks for the invitation to us Puget Sounders Rick!

Posted by Darren White on October 6, 2006 at 10:59 PM
I will be at the one in Vancouver, provided I dont have to work.......directions much appreciated.....

also.....I have a 65" HDTV and a great media room that would make for a fun evening if someone was willing to bring along their laptop to hook up to it....I only have a desk top...

Posted by Rick Lamb on October 7, 2006 at 1:09 AM
AHA!!! Finally a fellow "northerner" speaks up!!! Let's see if any others take the bait before committing to a date/time.

And I too have a full setup for matting and framing so that too can be part of the event.
Posted by IngeW on October 7, 2006 at 2:52 PM
Rick, Sean and I would be interested in headin' on up to your place to play photoshop games
