Just read an interesting tidbit. The full moon this evening will be approx. 12% larger due to the fact it is near it's closest point to the earth. Perhaps a great photo op.

Here's the story if you're interested.

I was driving east on I90 around Buffalo, NY at dusk and saw the moon. It was a beautiful site. It was showing though a very thin layer of clouds with a slight orange tint. It was huuugh. I wish I could have taken a photo but I didn't want to cause the interstate to back up. A semi would have been pissed at me and run over me. Didn't want that. What a great shot would have been.

I was out in the middle of Iowa tonight, taking shots along the Union Pacific double track mainline. I saw the moon and I sure THOUGHT it looked bigger! Yes, I took my share of shots. I stayed out in a remote spot taking photos of trains under the full moon until 10:30 PM. Then I had a four hour drive home!

Beautiful moonset this morning in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I couldn't find a workable shot before it was gone though. Sometimes you just have to enjoy it for what it is while it lasts.
