A dear friend and her husband, who are both Professional photographers in Illinois, (who went to the Galapagos Islands with me last March) are doing a fundraiser to benefit Cystic fibrosis research. Their little 6-month old grandson has been extremely ill and has just gotten this devastating diagnosis.

If anyone cares to contribute an 11x 14 (or larger) print of a favorite photo and a brief biography with your phot idf possible (and a card with your name and website, as it will be a great opportunity to get customers) we would all be very grateful.

Below is the letter we are sending out for help. If anyone has questions or concerns please email me at MoonshadowRN@yahoo.com.
thanks to all

And here is a new website with a picture of Owen with Barb and Chuck Edelblute, his grandparents and both professional photographers: http://friendsofowen.com/owen/

anyone wishing to make a Paypal donation may also do so through this website.

Dear Friends,

I am writing to say hello and also to tell you a story.
Earlier this summer I was called to California by my son, Andy, and his wife, Jennifer, to help care for my only grandchild, a sandy- haired little boy named Owen.

Owen was four months old at the time and was very sick.
He had been in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles the week before I arrived for a week of tests. Owen was sent home with a diagnosis of "Failure to Thrive." The week that I was there he went downhill fast and became so ill that I was afraid he would die.

Owen entered UCLA Medical Center and one week later he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). I could not understand how this beautiful little baby boy, my hope for the future, could be a victum of this terrible disease. I was profoundly saddened and for a while immobilized.

In the meantime in Los Angeles, Owen was moved to Childrens Hospital which is a Cystic Fibrosis Center. During Owen's seven weeks of hospitalization either Andy or Jennifer was with him every minute of the time, day and night. Now Owen is home and has medical treatments one hour long every morning and evening. We are all learning about a very difficult life with CF.

The reality of Owen's very serious illness for me was an extremely difficult and emotional time. A fellow photographer suggested a way to become pro-active would be to have a photography fundraiser for Owen's Cystic Fibrosis Medical Fund and Cystic Fibrosis Research.

The fundraiser will be this November 5. We are going to have a Silent Auction of the photographs that have been received from friends across the USA. I am hoping that you might help this cause by sending a photograph. We are hoping to receive your favorite or best photograph(s) by October 15. Please send your photograph(s),11x14 or larger, to the above address. Displayed by each photograph will be a bio, therefore, please include a short paragraph about your photography experience and a photo of yourself, if possible.

I will be so very appreciative if you are able to help us. Please know that 100% of the proceeds will go to Owen's Medical Fund and Cystic Fibrosis Research.

Sincerely,

Barb Edelblute

Sandy, I am so sorry to hear of Owen's plight.

An idea - if you can set up a PayPal donation link on Owen's behalf, we can promote that link here on NPN. I think you would get a good response to that. I have found NPN membership to be an extremely caring and giving group to humanitarian causes - especially for "one of our own."

Best of luck with the fund raising, and our prayers and thoughts are with Owen.

My prayers for the little man!! I'll try to send something. Is there a deadline for the fundraiser? Best wishes, Chris

Thank you, Christine - the silent auction of the donated prints is Sunday, November 5, 2006 - and prints should arrive no later than about a week earlier, so Barb can get them matted, if needed.
Donations of financial help for the family may be made at any time to the Paypal addresss listed on Owen's website.
Thank you from all of us.

I will be sending a photo. As a Respiratory Therapist I have spent many hours with Cystic Fibrosis patients. Medical research is making headway attacking this devastating disease. When I first started as a therapist, the average life span of a child diagnosed with the disease was single digits. Today the median life span is 36.8 years. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a remarkable charitable organization that puts more than 91 cents of every dollar raised toward research of the disease and care of those afflicted with it. I urge everyone to not only participate in this project but also to see what you can do with the many CF Foundation events. The ultimate goal is to have the CF acronym stand for Cure Found! Hopefully that will happen in Owen's lifetime.

Mike - that is our prayer too, for Owen and all the people affected by CF. I'm a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and my first 10 yrs were spent with kids with CF and cancers.
Thank you for your kind donation. We're very grateful for all those who are helping.

Sandy, any update on Owen? The friendsofowen.com website seems inaccessible right now.
Posted by SandyRichardsBrown on March 14, 2007 at 1:04 AM
Thanks SO much for asking!! Now that Owen is getting the needed treatments , including daily chest treatments, special diet, medications, and lots of extra loving - he is just thriving!

He was born at 7 # and was unable to gain at all for many months, while they tried despersately to find what was wrong. But now, with good treatment, at just a year old, he is up to a VERY normal 22 #, looks perfctly healthy, and is truly doing wonderfully!

thank you ALL for your heartfelt donations of the photos, and your caring, thoughts, and prayers..
