20D, 300/4 + 1.4, ISO800, 1/2500 @ f8, A-327 + BH1, C1Pro + CS2

Hi,

As I was unable to make Bradgate I took a trip to a southern location for Red Deer, just so I didn't feel totally left out....

Question... What spooks Red Deer more, the dog running at them or the family chasing the dog and screaming at the top of their voices? I had to make cover pretty quickly as the whole herd headed straight towards me

Made a mistake here, I had been shooting in deep woodlands prior to this shot and had upped the ISO to 800 and forgot to lower it, testament to how usable 800 is if you get the exposure right, no noise reduction apart from the C1 default...

All the best

Phil

Seems great to me, Phil. Those ISO800 def. doesn't show... A great shot with a classis pose. I like the inclusion of some sky here. Good you managed to escape them. Last year a woman here in Denmark was severely hurt when a female deer jumped on her repeatedly.

Very good shot Phil. Hope you have recovered from the stampede experience  .

Is this Southern location a secret? I am close(ish) to the New Forest and keep meaning to go for the rut but haven't managed to sneak out yet and not too sure exactly where to go.

Hi Phil a nice image it always amazes me how good the high iso's are with modern digital cameras, just yesterday I was looking at some ISO 400 slide's that I had scanned a few years ago, I compared it to ISO 1600 shots from my d2x & d200, the 1600 ISO shots were much better, as for getting close to the male it is always advisable to be downwind of them unfortunately in Brian's case it's obvious the stupidity gene must run in the group.

Phillip.

Hi Phil

A nicely composed classic image and incredible for 800 iso. As ever beautifully processed with rich well balanced colours, I must talk to you sometime re. C1 but I'm waiting to see what Adobe Lightroom eventually offers!

Nice one Phil  I am glad I am not the only one to forget certain settings

Hi Phil

Nice shot, and I agree that ISO 800 is certainly useable if you get a good exposure. Some post processing with NeatImage or NoiseNinja helps too.

cheers

A really excellent result Phil.
It's the really low angle and uncluttered setting that makes this one for me.
I also feel that the small area of blue sky very much adds to the images' overall attractiveness.

Nice shot, I make the same mistake with ISO settings a little too often too but The D70 seems less forgiving of it looking at this

An excellent shot, I like everything about it and think the gap in the trees really pulls your eye to sthe stags head :toast:

Very nice, like the low shooting angle.
