Got lucky on this. I just happened to stop here while it was still raining/snowing to discuss with the wife what to do for sunset light if it should happen. A few minutes later a shaft of sunlight broke through. This was taken seconds after the storm broke. My camera and I got a bit wet on this one, but a 1DMkII can handle a decent amount of rain without a whimper, although the 17-40 is not as robust.

Sweet Don!!! Great capture, and good timing!!
By the way, I did see you up there that day. Must have been an hour or so after this happened, and you drove past us on your way back down.

Being at the right place at the right time, plus a little serendipity, can make for some great images. Congrats on this one!

Not only did Mother Nature give you a wonderful opportunity, she gave it to you in a way that let you get a very nice framing. Very nicely done on both your parts!

Don, you have a sweetie there. I constantly struggle with Todd's statement here in Pagosa.
I'm home for the weekend
I'm relaxing in the evening after dinner looking at the East Range
Something wonderful happens and my camera gear is:
in the garage
in the ATV trailer
in the pickup
upstairs
in the mustang
in some other place hard to get to.
I need to get more organized
