I drove about 420 miles Thursday surveying the land. I did a little shooting, but mostly I was escaping the daily grind of living in the "big city." I left Little Rock on I-40, turned North on Hwy 65 at Conway and never saw interstate again. Richland Creek area is showing the first signs of color but nothing to get stirred up about. As Tim E suggested, the lower elevations along the rivers are starting to show some changes, and the mountainsides and hilltops are still pretty green. The areas around Bass and Mt Judea are showing some color. I'll go out on a limb and say that North of Clinton on Hwy 65 is going to have a nice fall peak this year. It just had that "feel" to it. Still green but I just sensed that it is primed to explode with color. Anyway, no fall color to show, but it's coming. Time to start getiing out. Here's one of my final shots of the day, sunset on Lake Maumelle. Not as colorful as I'd hoped, but great textures.

That looks like a great place to stake out a good sunset. It's so hard to find shores these days that are devoid of lights. Nice detail in the clouds on this one - thanks for posting!

Dominic - Thanks for the RC update. I was going to head over this wekend, but I'll think I'll wait another week or so. Maybe well get some rain in the meantime!
I must say I'm a little surprised at how muted the color is in this sunset shot. Up here in the Ozarks, I've really been kicking myself for all the spectacular sunsets I've missed shooting the past few days (trying to get ready for the arts/crafts fair). Looks like there must have been a cloud layer higher up that kept things from firing up. But the detail and patterns are really nice here - great composition. Thanks for the post!

I agree Dominic, great textures in this shot. I like the comp and for me it gets even better when you crop down about 15% from the top. Thanks for sharing!

Nice shot Dominic, I think you should keep shooting the same location for a few weeks. It would be hard to match that sky though.
