Hi everyone,
Can anyone suggest a good place in Yorkshire to photograph Kingfishers.

Most rivers and lakes have them,I have just spent 3 hrs walking a local river and watched 3 kingfishers (a pair and a single) and a dipper (a first for me) There is nothing like getting off your arse for a couple of hours and putting some ground work in,I find it more rewarding to find my own wildlife and decide how im going to get the shot of it rather than having my hand held and taking using elses hard work, not that im saying thats what you are doing-look for a river or lake with a high bank area and check it for holes as thats where they will nest, although you will need a special license in the UK to take images of kingfishers at or near the nest-Good luck with your quest and look forward to seeing the images

Hi Andrew,

Kingfishers are active right from the crack of dawn so your best way of finding them is just to go for a walk along your local river, sit on the bank for an hour or so,and hopefully you'll hear their unmistakeable call and see them wizzing up and down the river.

Hi Dave,
After thinking long and hard about your comments regarding , getting off my arse , doing some ground work , having my hand held and not using other peoples hard work , i think back to 2005 when you asked David Mantripp if he new of good areas for ibex, chamoix and eagle etc , i take it back then you were still finding your feet !!!
I see nothing wrong with asking the advice of people much more experienced than myself i'm not a pro like some who frequent this forum.I'm sure your advice will lead to some good views of kingfishers , all i need Dave is some sound advice not a lecture.
Regards
Andy

I think you may have taken me wrong,When i said about getting off your arse and hand holding it was just a term in general and said i was not saying it was what you were doing and then gave some advise on what to look for when looking for kingfishers,Regarding me asking David Mantripp,I had only just moved to switzerland and dont really speak the langauge so yes i was finding my feet and all the chamois, ibex etc i have found here have been through my own efforts and putting in the miles on my feet,I wasnt giving a lecture and if i have caused offence then i appologise
