Hi,
Took this one 1/2 an hour before sunrise yesterday morning.
I watched a small group of Sika deer emerging from the woodland on their way to the heathland.
I hoped one of them would pause for a second between these two trees, which thankfully she did.
I really rate this shot - the combination of the framing of the deer and the depth created between the foreground and background are very effective. Granted it is a busy silhouette, but this adds some nice areas of detail whereas most silhouettes don't have much interest to hold the eye for long. The shapes created by the plants on the ground really help in this regard, a nice contrast with the strong linear verticals of the tree trunks. I would try saturating the cloud colours a little more (don't overdo it).
You should be really pleased with this shot.

Hi Justin
great capture and top marks for getting in position at the crack of dawn.

hi justin. long time no see. i can see both points if view. you've planned well and it's kind of worked, it's almost a superb image. i think the only thing that it lacks is if the deer was standing side profile, then i think i twould be spot on.
Hello Justin
As John says, a little different than your norm, but nonetheless, an image which I like just as is.
Best wishes

Hi Justin. Very unusual and striking. You've managed a fantastic amount of detail for a silhouette, both in the deer and its surroundings. You've set the scene and told the story - fantastic.

Hi Justin
I think this is a cracking shot. For me the amount of detail in the silhouette is fine and I love the subtle shades in the sky!
I really like this Justin, the Deer is very nicely framed my only problem is that to me the silhouette is a little too black but other people seem to be able to see detail in it so so its probably just my monitor.

Hi Justin
This shot works very well, the composition is about spot on, except maybe a bit too much solid black at the top of the frame. Sky colour is pleasant although not over dramatic, some stronger reds or oranges might have helped give the scene a bit more oomph.
Overall although your idea and final result have worked well and produced an attractive image.
cheers
Sean
p.s. bonus points for getting up before sunrise as well

Like this image Justin. For me its not something I would normally view, but I find it quite attractive. Chopping off some of the lower half for me seems better.

All comments always welcome and appreciated.
A bit of a departure from your usual style Justin
To me the scene is just a little too busy to cut it as a sillouette.
I prefer a much more graphic scene for this type of shot.
