D2x, 300-800 @ 800, 1/320 @ f5.6, ISO400, manual exposure.
This is my first post for a very long while but is a bit of a milestone for me being the only kingfisher I've ever photographed so I thought I'd share it with you. This is one of only three frames shot over 2 days waiting for the bird to pause in a clear spot. Sadly the perch is rather ugly and uninteresting but as this is on a reserve I'm afraid I'm unable to introduce a substitute.

The perch is fine and the BG is superb. Well done. I have only just managed to capture a Kingfisher for the first time a few weeks ago. Amazing just to see them.

Nothing wrong with the perch at all and you've got a good clean b/g and a nice pose from the bird too.
Congrats on your first Kingfisher image, but be careful, they become addictive
Very nice.
Now you've got the problem of where to go to improve on it. A hard task but I'm sure you'll find a way.
Cheers,
John

A lovely clean image of a young male. BG is just about perfect imo. Looking at the camera numbers I think I would traded some of the shutter speed for aperture, the dof looks a touch tight

Hi John
Super shot and BG - if it were mine I would have cropped a little tighter especially off the top!
