Red Deer Stag Roaring 2
Sorry, another Deer picture but its all I have been doing. My last image was made better by cropping in tighter but if I am honest I don't like cropping to much as I feel this loses to much quality. This image is full frame and this guy was really pumped up so allowed me to get quite close. I know its not to every bodies taste with the out of focus stuff at the front but as Tom will tell you I am only 5 ft 5 and can't really see above the bracken

Canon EOS 1D MkII, 500mm Lens, F6.3, 1/250, ISO Rating 200.

I actually really like the oof stuff at the front,The colours are in layers and that works very well,Focusing is spot on and you have caught the animal in full roar so all in all nothing more you could really want-ticks all the right boxes :toast:

You'll never please everyone all of the time.

This one feels too tight for me. The antlers are just too close to the frame edge.

Deers in bracken eh? Been a long time since I've seen any rutting stags in anything other than heather and rank grass.
Do you call them in to your position Danny, or do you move to them?

Hi Danny,
No need to apologise for another deer picture,it's always a pleasure to see them  .
I think this works superbly, and even more so due to the out of focus bracken in the foreground.

Hello John

Usually I move towards them using the same techniques as you would a wild stag but on occaisions I have called them to get a responce from them, it works well even though I am not that good at it :frown:

Its a nice shot but there are two things that jump out at me everytime I see it:

1) There is a lot of empty space at the top of the frame
2) Something about the face looked strange and I couldn't work out what it was, however I have just realised its because his eyes are closed and look like slits. Its probably just me as nobody else has mentioned it but it makes the face look a little odd.

Having said that, I've not got a shot anywhere near as close as this of this scene (unless I crop about %60 out of my image) so good work on that!!

Hi Danny
Really like it. OOF foreground works as does the tightness of the antlers to the edge. Good front cover for "Rutting Monthly".
Cheers Simon
