This is a repost of my photo of Mt Washington. I used the shadow/highlight function in PS to bring out the shadows of the tree line on the left side of the photo. It sure made a difference.

This is much better than the first image you posted. The color on the far hills just above where the river disappears behind the trees adds a nice perspective on the season.
