Be sure to check out Guy Tal's latest installment of his "essential landscape" series - Does the World Need Another Aspen Image?. Great insight from one of NPN's most respected landscape photographers!

Perhaps it's a conflict of interest for me to comment since Guy is my friend and business partner - and my name and photograph appear in the article - but Guy's writing continually impresses me. He makes me think about things I wouldn't have otherwise pondered.

Excellent writing, Guy!

Excellent article for sure! I totally agree with Guy. Just because there are a million pictures of the same thing or place I still want to shoot my own. What's wrong with that?

Finally, the world may or may not need any images at all. What it does need is those who appreciate its natural beauty, those who seek to be part of its native ecosystems, to understand its cycles, and to enjoy the simple pleasures of wilderness.

The above is so well put - simple, powerful and true. Thanks for another wonderful article, Guy.

Guy's writing skill impresses me equally as much as his photography. When there is a new Tal article up for reading I always drop what I am doing, put my feet up and enjoy it.

Another wonderful article, Guy.

Well said and no more needs to be said. (Charging battery to go out and try to capture that which is calling me and I don't need a reservation to feast at Nature's table.)

I started shooting landscapes about a year ago. When I say that - I mean that I actually cared about what the photograph looked like after it was shot; until then I just assumed it was the most amazing and the best photograph ever made by mankind until then by the simple click of a button just because the camera was in my hands

Over the last year or so, the question of shooting a well known spot over and over again kept rankling my mind. I have also come across people discouraging me from visiting places that have already been shot, and I found that rather perplexing. After all, my intention was to show the world the way I see it through my eyes, and it may match another photographer's vision if we end up producing the same shot of the same place. But I might return with a completely different photograph that nobody would've imagined.

That will to see and show the world what only my eyes can see uniquely has allowed me to shoot often overlooked or overshot places, and also kept me within my budget - I cannot afford to take too long or expensive trips or both due to other committments.

Thanks Guy, for delving on this topic. It will help a lot of upcoming photographers to "not bother and just enjoy the beauty others have been enjoying". Also kudos to both Michael and Adam for those fantastic shots.

Regards,
Ashutosh

Eloquently put into words what I suspect many of us feel.

Guy, an outstanding article and I wholly agree with your assessment. I think much as you say that photography has to come from the inside first. If others are inspired that is icing on the cake but my greatest inspiration is how nature affects me. Thanks for all you add to this great site. I especially appreciate all of your well thought out comments on the images in the galleries. You always make helpful comments and I do value them. Thanks!
