A very nice portrait.
My initial reaction was the bird was a little too centered and the composition would have been stronger with the bird more to the left. However,I quite like how the dappled background (which I very much like) is split 50/50 between yellow and green,so with that in mind,I like the composition as it is.
How did you come about the shot? By chance or was it pre-planned?

Hi Justin
Thanks for the comments
The shot was pre-planned, Taken in the garden using a remote release. the Sparrowhawk is a quite regular visitor to the feeding station. and will readly use a well placed perch.

Cracking shot of a lovely bird .
(tho i think having him just to the right might make it even better ?).
Gary great shot the only small nit for me is I.M.H.O. the B/G seems a bit to busy colour wise and draws me to it before your excellant shot of the male bird. is it possible to capture him with a plainer B/G bymoving left or right a bit or are you in a fixed spot

Still waiting for the day when I get such a good image of one of these.

Would prefer the bird slightly of centre... but still an excellent image.
