Any ideas on why when doing a batch rename, with all files in a folder selected, Bridge would only rename part of the files. Once it was only about 5 files renamed once it was all but two(the first and the last, and this last time it was all but about five or six but the ones not renamed were in the middle. I have tried selecting by clicking the first file then shift and the last file, by going to edit>select all, and by ctrl+A. Once this happens the only thing I know to do is to delete them all and reload them from the CF card and try again, which is also giving trouble because I sometimes get a message that "the file is could be being used by another program" even though no programs are open. Yes I have tried rebooting. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Any ideas? Oh and I am not most computer savy person in the world but not totally lost either.(but almost)

Thanks Bruce

This might help explain -- I get a similar problem when I apply metadata to a whole folder at once -- I have found that when you select a lot of photos, it takes the Bridge a little while to actually accomplish the "selection". So now I select and wait a little while (Minute or two) and then come back and perform my operation. Seems to solve my problem and maybe it will also solve yours.

For what it is worth --

I have seen the same behaviour Barbara explains. Sometimes the folder cache in memory gets stale, or out of sync with the folder cache on disk. Leaving the folder and returning to it forces Bridge to re-read the folder cache from disk, can also clear the issue. I sometimes see the same problem with thumbnails that appear to not be generated for new files when using the Import from Camera script from www.theDAMbook.com. Switching to another folder and switching back after a few minutes seems to get around the problem.

Make sure that Bridge has all the photos in it's cache (busy icon at bottom stops "humming") and then that it has had time to put all of the selected photos into "select" mode...again the icon at bottom stops spinning.

Thanks to you all for the info.
I got it to work on the folder that I had been working on. I guess I did not wait long enough. I had not even payed attention to the icon at the bottom. I did have it fail to rename two files in a smaller folder today after getting it to work on the larger one. ( 22 raw files in the small one and 122 in the large). I did wait on the icon to stop, I though, but maybe I was to quick again.

I have seen the spinning icon disappear and then return after a couple of seconds, as if it has stopped to think for a moment, has been paused by the OS, or is flushing some cache or something. I now wait several seconds before I move on to the next task just to be sure it is finished.

Thanks Walter,

I'll just have to make sure and give it plenty of time before trying to rename files from now on.
