A Richmond Rose-ringed Parakeet
Taken on my recent trip to Richmond Park against a horrible white flat sky.

Canon 20D + 300 f2.8 IS + x2 ext. iso 400 1/320 at f8. It was a bit of a grab shot and the bird was one stop under exposed (correceted in Adobe RAW) Considering the light, high iso, approx. 60% crop and the fact I got the exposure wrong with no noise reduction applied, I was reasonable pleased with the result

Hi David
nice shot and I like the composition. It looks as though it was shot in a Studio. :toast:

Seeing more and more of these around, particularly along the Thames, there is also a flock of around 40 odd birds in the Sevenoaks area and a large flock in Thanet.

Like the effect created by the featureless sky here, nice one.

I agree with the above - the white sky seems to add to this shot. :toast:

Very good for a grab shot David  I must admit I am oposite to the others in that I personally prefer a bg with at least some colour/detail.

Nice exposure on the bird and the bright white sky will now make this a synch to drop a dark storm sky in, so be ready to snap one.

Nice to hear that you cock up exposures as well-i will sleep better tonight-I think you have done well here and the perch sets it off nicely :toast:

Not for me, I'm afraid the background totally dominates in my eyes.

Hi David

In the conditions you have done very well here and got very good colour and detail in the bird. It does have the look of a studio shot but under the conditions not a lot you can do about it.

I didn't realise these birds were getting so common in London and also the South East.

cheers

Hi David,

A fine result given the less than perfect conditions you had to deal with.
Love the curved perch, and of course the colourful charactor perched on the end of it.
