It's been a while since I posted anything on NPN (just started again yesterday), and if anybody wondered why...
Second weekend in October together with Guy Edwardes, I organized a prolonged weekend workshop. And when I started to put things together, it took me off guard how much work was involved! I realized that my main locations were not suited to profile of participants, and I had to rush back to the mountains trying to find something that would not require too much hiking. Not that I don't like spending time in mountains, but with pregnant wife and two young boys at home it was a difficult task. Otherwise organization went well, beside adrenalin rush when contacting van hiring company, but in the end it all went as expected.
Two "locals" Mike Broderick and Paula Graham, together with Tom and Katharine, two participants from UK joined us. It was plain incredible how well a group of six bond together! One of "glues" was my not-so-good English, and we had endless laugh over “chested tits" (should be crested tit ) and shit over sheet (film that is ) and similar misspellings. We were blessed with clear sky just enough haze for good layering effect, mist in the morning and larch trees just putting their autumn dresses on. It was exhausting driving around narrow and twisty roads in Alps, but cheers from folks in van pay big time for me. It was very odd and let me say sad feeling coming back to work on Friday morning, realizing that cheerful atmosphere of our van and peacefulness of magnificent Julian Alps is over. But deep in I realized something more important: it's doable for me and although hard work it's much more rewarding that sitting in front of computer looking at odd and meaningfulness numbers and graphs. My sheets and rolls are in lab, and I do think that there will not be just shit on that film. Of course you'll see more in ESS gallery.

Nice to read the short report. Looking forward to see the images.

We had a great time indeed although it was very hard work, early to rise and late to bed with mountain climbing in between..Guy and Marko looked after us very well, including some good advise on composition and exposure.
Stunning and relatively unspoiled country, great food too.

Your stories are TOO FUNNY! I love the communication gap. Sounds like a great workshop!
Hey there!! I like your "shameless self-promotion" Marko!! It was fun reading your dialog. Definitely look forward to your posts and that of everyone else's. I had the chance to go on a hike with fellow NPN'er Jim Salge and had a great time and so, therefore, would think that like-minded individuals would have a blast also. Thanks for posting!!

Herewith a quick pic to show the essence (as I saw it) of Slovenia and some camera team work: Marko's 500mm plus 2x converter, Guy's 5D, and my flash card (I have gone 'Nikon' and due to weight restrictions could not bring long lens).
Thank you for your appreciation. It feels warm, when one see support from the group. Right now I'm in a process of setting dates for next year. I'll have a lot of work with my family and upcoming third baby, but I'm sure we'll do at least two workshops next year: this autumn one was to good not to be repeated, and we'll like to show folks Alpine meadows in beginning of the summer.
Paula, I'm glad that you enjoyed workshop, and I like your photo very much. It's a reminder of a spirit that was present in that van, but you skip Mike's tripod and ball head from our "team set-up" .
I got home from Venice at Midnight last night, and I can say that Marko and Guy's workshop was the highlight of over two weeks in Italy and Slovenia! It's funny the differences each photographer gets from the same scene....I took an almost identical composition to the one Paula posted above, but my shot is very different (posted on NSN in the hand of man forum). The larches were beautiful indeed. After the workshop, I spent two more days running around with Marko trying to shoot bears and succeeding in shooting cavescapes and cave macro.
Great experience and a fine group on the workshop. Participants next year will have a great time!
