I am thinking about going up to Estes for an afternoon shoot. Weather.com says high winds, is that the case? This might be a good one for Erik :toast: to chime in.

Looks nice on the web cams: http://estesparkcvb.com/cams.cfm

I'm going to be at the Bear parking lot at about 6am tomorrow morning if anyone wants to meet.

Tony,

I really wish I could be there. But I need to go my day job

Tommorrow morning should be an awesome time for shooting after all the snow. There is a good chance Bear Lake will be frozen over. But I am sure it will look amazing up there at sunrise - Hallet, Longs, maybe Dream Lake or Alberta Falls. Hiking trails may require snow shoes.

Hi Brenden,

The winds picked up for a little while last night and knocked quite a bit of the snow off the trees, but not all of it. All the lakes are frozen solid. I hiked up and around Bierstadt Lake yesterday from Glacier Basin as the Bear Lake road was closed until about 4pm yesterday. The snow was thigh deep for much of the way.Today I have to stay in an work, though it might be a great day to be out.

This shot was taken yesterday morning on the Big Thompson near Moraine Park.

Update: The winds have picked up now. The sun is shining but the wind is blowing! Brrr.

When I arrived at the Bear Lake parking lot this morning it was too windy up there for me - trees dancing in the wind and long LF exposures don't really go too well together. The snow had for the most part been knocked off the trees. There is a lot less snow on the ground now than in Erik's photo above.

After that I decided to shoot the Mummy Range at sunrise from near Many Parks curve, but Trail Ridge was closed just past Deer Ridge Junction. I ended up shooting the Big Thompson in Morraine Park. It was a great sunrise with lots of clouds over the mountains.

Hey Erik - Your 'Icy Sprague' shot is awesome!
