Lens rental?

I live in the land of the focally challenged, with my biggest lens being a Nikon 70-200VR coupled with a Nikon 1.7TC. This can make some aspects of nature photography a bit frustrating if not completely out of the question sometimes. It's a situation I'm not going to be able to at least partly remedy until Autumn next year when I'll be traumatised about which bigger glass to buy (the Nikon 200-400 F4 is top of the list at the moment).

In the meantime I've been considering renting lenses. I am however having a bit of a problem finding somewhere in darkest north Lancashire from which to rent. Does anybody know of somewhere within reasonable striking distance of Lancaster that rent Nikon glass?

Hi Paul
Calumet in Manchester (too far?) rent out Nikon glass. Don't know what deposit is required though.
Cheers Simon

Quite a few of the big pro shops rent out and probably Manchester or Leeds will be your best bet, but be warned, it ain't cheap. It's more of a service for pro's who need a specific lens for a specific job and they pass on the hire cost to the client. I'm guessing but I reckon a Nikon 400 f2.8, for instance, will be £50 a day. Simon's suggested Calumet, so I'll suggest RIght Image in Leeds. You'll find that most of them do weekend rates too.

Thanks for the info chaps. I know renting can be a bit pricey, but it will be nice to have a couple of sessions with some bigger glass as a treat!
