Karen and I were on our way home from a church rally in Loveland today and we were blessed with this sunset. I have never seen anything like this. Did anybody else notice this.
Beautiful shot! I actually noticed the same type of clouds while driving home this morning... like some sort of rainbow clouds Didn't get a chance to check out the sunset today but luckily you did, Thanks for sharing

Wonderful scene, James. I saw the same clouds that Michael mentioned yesterday morning. I've seen them from time to time, maybe a few times a year. Yesterday morning's were pretty well-defined. I did a little searching yesterday and came away with a couple of useful links:
Good, brief description of what causes this. Cloud Appreciation Society. Maybe a little "odd" (check out the cloud appreciation manifesto!! ) but I've gone to this site many times when looking for info on particular formations.
Wow, those are cool clouds!!! Wish I had seen them.

I saw these clouds yesterday afternoon when I was at the park with my kids. I snapped a few pics of them over neighborhood houses with my wife's little Canon.

Here is a closeup of the clouds that I took near my house on the south side of Fort Collins.

Those are some wicked colors in the clouds. Nice shots everyone!
Very cool stuff - Please let everyone know when you learn the name of these "prism clouds".

I saw them too, some people were out in the street gazing at them, wonderful colors, I had never seen them before either but my little camera in the car didnt do them justice. I spoke to a Meteorologist and he said they might have been "sundogs", at least I think that's what he said, something about vertical ice crystals in the clouds at an angle to the setting sun making little rainbow effects. Pretty amazing stuff.
