My wife and I traveled to Comanche Grassland near La Junta over the weekend with big plans...........Unfortunately, the roads were pure slime, mud, and goo (after the snowstorm). So, after sliding around for hours, we drove south and I made this image of the Purgatoire River near the hamlet of Higbee.
It's beautiful country that should be avoided when muddy!

Nice colors. All the leaves around here are gone.

Thanks for the post. It's an area I'd like to get out to sometime.

This area has been getting alot of press in the Co/Spgs area. Apparently Ft. Carson is looking to expand some training grounds that it has down there by a large amount. There are some concerns about how the Army might acquire the land that is privately owned and what might happen to some sensitive and historical areas down there.
I'm glad that you added this unfortunate news. Some of the ranches have signs that say "NOT FOR SALE TO THE US ARMY". The military already owns a huge amount of land that prevents access to much of the Purgatoire River. The surrounding canyons, buttes and grassland are quite spectacular and wild.

True. I should have added that Ft. Carson already has an extension down there. They are looking to expand that capability.
