Hyena with giraffe jawbone
500mmf4 + 2xtele ISO400 f8 at 1/320.

Full frame width with crop from bottom of frame. I've given 4% burn to background highlights to kill them a bit as they were competing with the subject too much.

We returned to a lion kill the following morning to find the hyenas in control. They are fantastic to photograph - lots of animation, activity and expression.

All comments valued.

hi andrew,

i like the suggestion in this photograph. i.e. the jaw holding a jaw. did you see the kill? was the giraffe ill? must be a hell of a thing to try to bring down if not. though i have heard of them tackling elephant which must be harder.

What an incredible animal they are. This looks a little soft to me though, other than that I think I like the composition.

I like the presentation but would like to see just a millimetre of space above the hyenas ears to stop the clipping on the edge.

Sadly no ear tips as we're right at the top of frame here - a real "grab" shot as I saw it close and late (too many hyenas to keep an eye on).

Thanks
