I found this spot on the peninsula near Long Beach Wa, and came by several times before shooting for the right amount of light, fog and color. The numerous white tree trunks caught my eye, and though chaotic, it seems the white trunks and the V shape they form seems to give it enough order to work. I love how the fog and light beyond gives depth... will be curious to see what kinds of opinions I get on this.. thanks in advance.

Hi, Ned. My first impression was that I liked the "rythym" in this image with all the parallel lines (of the birch tree trunks, then of the trees' branches going to the upper right). And the speckled yellow and green is kinka cool. But the more I looked at it, I was overcome by distractions. Looked at it all different ways. I think some brutal cropping? What about making a vertical or square out of the image, cropping tight to the first straight birch on the left, cropping off the right about an inch to the right of the last straight tree trunk, and cropping off 2 to 2-1/2 inches of the bottom. Just IMHO.

Hi Ned,

I'm not sure about the cropping suggestions Catherine made, but the more I looked at it the more I wanted to see what was behind the trees. I like the foreground framed with the green and yellow leaves and the foggy BG really draws my eyes into the photo. I like it.

I looked, I read Catherine's reply, I looked again, I decided I wanted another layer of foliage or trunks behind your front row of trees, I half-composed a reply and then read Lee's posting above. I agree with Lee.

Although I'm not seeing the "V" - I really like this kind of photo, and I love the myriads of textures, lines and colors present in the frame. The more you look, the more there is to see. I think it's one of those styles that you either find attractive or don't. I shoot this kind of stuff a lot, but I've always been too chicken to post it...

Thanks for the comments - I appreciate them. It looks pretty good printed big - definitely quite a sight at full resolution.

I like that you are thinking out of the box. The image is nice...again, no stunner but I can see where a print of this would allow more exploration.

Not everyone's cup I'm sure... trees have been a focus of mine lately..
