Difficult Barn Owl
Hi,

This is the first time I've posted a photo on UKNP, although I have been admiring the quality of the images posted on here for a long time, picking up tips & tricks along the way.

This photo of a wild Barn Owl was taken back in March 2005 and since then I've found myself re-editing the RAW file because I've never been satisfied with the results. It appeared to have a strong colour cast and I couldn't get the whites to look erm....well white  Have I got it right?

Here are the stats:

D70, Sigma 50-500 @500
ISO 200, 1/125, F6.3
Full Frame, using car as hide
Edited in ACR & CS2
Dust spot removed, colour balanced, curves and sharpening.

All comments welcome.

Hello Mark

The whites certainly look white to me.

I like the perch too. The barbs on the wire look great with the talons of the owl.

Only thing I'd like is a little more space around the bird.

Looks spot on to me Mark.

Great picture. :toast:

Echo comments about the barbs, really adds to the feeling of the picture.

HI Mark
a very fine first post. The colours look good on my monitor and also biting sharp.

Hi Mark

Colours look fine to me too. Would like a little more room around the bird and also a bit more eye contact o/w fine image.

Hi Mark,

A wonderful shot IMHO :toast: Was just wondering what the white blob is at the tip of the owl's left wing? Doesn't detract from a fine image anyway!

Looks superb, I agree about the extra space for the owl to look into and the eye contact but since I haven't managed a decent perched Owl shot myself I would be very happy with this if it was mine  Love the perch too.

Great shot.

Very good Barnie and colour spot on. Not too fussed about the room thing but each to their own.

:toast: welcome aboard

Whites are ok with me Mark  My personal preference would have been to see the face a little fuller but I would still be very happy if it were mine

Hi Mark
Colours look good to me, eye contact would have added to the image, but I would be happy if it were mine.

Hi Mark and welcome,

I'd also prefer to see a bit more face, but otherwise one to be pleased with.

Hope to see many more :wavey:
