Last Weekend at Silver Falls
.....again not the best, just the first to get scanned. Seems I've got a houseful of images and I keep generating more. Please let me know what you'd do in PS with this image. (Other than eradicate the black void around it and replace it with a nice matte---my wife will teach me that soon). Seriously, I'm trying to acquaint myself with PS, so don't worry about pointing out the obvious.

Tamron, Nikon, Provia 400F, increase in contrast and sharpening in scanner, no PS modification.

Eric, honestly this image isn't doing much for me. Compositionally, I just don't think there is enough to hold ones interest. Technically you have some blown highlights and the shadows are nearly blocked up. I think I would set this aside and move on to the next photograph. I have seen some of your images. You are capable of producing better work.

As far as PS modifications go I would start off with the shadow/highlight recovery tool. With that tool you can brighten up the shadow areas and reduce (to a point) any highlights.

could be the scan or my monitor, but it's dark enough that I feel like I'm missing something that's hiding in the shadows... I agree with Eric, try the S/H recovery... just be carefull with it... I've discovered it's easy to go overboard on it and make the image look really wierd
