I saw this and thought it may be of interest to some of you (read Tom)

Ta

I might get rid of the 617 some day... but not quite yet as scanned at 4000dpi it produces a 241M image

I've been using autostitch for many months now, and it's a very effective little program.

I've posted a couple of images made using autostitch on here. Here's an example:

http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/bbs.cgi?a=vm&mr=11403&b=mm&st=0&la=18&ph=3&sid=9821&u=9821

Although it only works with JPEGs (well, the free version does), once the pano has been created (with Autostitch set to all the highest quality options), I then resave it as a TIFF, so that I can do any further work on it. The resulting file sizes can also be huge - I think the TIFF of the shot in the link above (made of 5 separate RAW files) was around 160Mb. I've made other images using Autostitch that have ended up at over 200Mb. Panoramic images created by Autostitch have been sent to Alamy, and they made it through their QC process without any trouble.

There are some other programs available that are based on the Autostitch software that are supposedly very good and work with TIFFs - but they cost, and I haven't used them.

Well worth a download! The free version does expire after a couple of months, but you just need to re-download it when it does (I think they do this to ensure you are always using the latest version).
