Here's a sorta non-typical autumn shot of some cascades in the Devils Track river gorge, located along Minnesota/Lake Superior's north shore. I find that I prefer cloudless days when working in deeper gorges since the bare rock walls of the gorge become giant reflectors towards the later part of the day, adding some vitality to the scenery. In this particular shot, the sun was bouncing off of a far back wall, providing the glow you see in the upper part of the frame. This is just the first edit/adjustment of the scan, so I have a bit of fine tuning left to do. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Joel, good stuff! I like this as is, but I like it even better with a slight crop that only shows the water flow and rocks/pine needles/leaves without the rock wall or tree trunks. Personal preference of course..... CJ
Hi Chris. Your suggestion is an interesting one and I'll have to think about it for a bit. I actually like the upper portion of the image, and am afraid that the time exposed water would become overly dominant without it included. I'll probably get a print made up and consider it for awhile. I've found that sometimes actually experiencing a place (outside of just a photograph) can affect what I feel should be shown. Sometimes this takes some time to settle out.
