When I first started birding and photography 5 years ago, I started using Tripod/Lycos as the host for my website.

I am COMPLETELY fed up with them, and am looking to transfer my site along with my domain name (also through Tripod) to another host. My webpages are completely designed and maintained by myself, using FrontPage. I have been unable to publish using FrontPage for the past 8 days. Tripod answered ONE of my support ticket requests last week, giving options that didn't resolve the problem. I've since sent 4 other support questions, all of which have been deleted by Tripod, without response.

On their help page, it even says "We reserve the right to refuse response to any question". WTH!?!?!?! What kind of service is this?

When I first started, my site was just http://huskertsd.tripod.com, without any purchased domain name. I unfortunately still have links out there that link to this old site name and not my purchased domain name of sdakotabirds.com, so I'm not taking this move lightly. I can only take so much though, and this past week has been the last straw.

Any suggestions on web hosts? My needs aren't too demanding. My site right now varies between 150-200 MB, I need Frontpage extension support, and pretty modest bandwith requirements.

Anybody use "StartLogic"? They seem to get good reviews. Another other suggestions?

I use eApps. They are certainly not the cheapest but their service and uptime has so far been outstanding. Highly recommended.

I use iHostStudio - it's the only host I've ever used, and I have very limited experience with this, but have been happy so far. No issues at all. The times I've needed Tech Support I just called them and they answered my questions right them and there. Only $9.95/month for my needs.

I have been using LunarPages for about a year now and every time I have dealt with tech support the issue was handled quickly and completely. I use the basic plan which is $6.95 and it meets all of my needs.

I use hostonce.com and have for about 7 years. I setup and maintain several different websites there and they have always been excellent for service and ability to problem solve. One of the websites that I developed and maintained was recently taken over by the owner and the transfer from hostonce.com to her server at her work was painless.

My go-to site for web hosting reviews is http://www.web-hosting-reviews.org/.

I've been using www.pair.com for web hosting for about 8-9 years and I've never had any serious down time. I believe they support front page extensions. They don't do JSP or ASP so I had to move my photo site to another provider but if your stuff is straight HTML and you do PERL or PHP, they're very reasonable and very reliable.

I'm no expert, but I have used DotEasy for the last two years and never a problem! They have several available plans. A comparison chart can be found here: http://www.doteasy.com/Services/WebHosting/Compare/

Hey Terry,
I am so happy with my new web host, I'm plugging them to everyone I know. Check out www.impactfolios.com . They may still be offering a free trial. I signed up for the free trial and after one day I was sold. Building and maintaining the site is no harder than building your portfolio here. Under 200 bucks a year, great customer service, a blog page, comment page, etc. I can't imagine anything easier or better. Lots of options with designs, etc. They are now using me as a testamonial. I give them 5 stars. If your curious, check out my site. It was built over the course of about 2 long days. :wavey:

Also, I might add that my domain was switched in about 1 day.

Terry:

I've been using I-Power for about a year now. http://www.ipowerweb.com
I'm pretty well satisfied with their service. The few times I've needed support they have been very responsive.
