Dry Mirror Lake, Yosemite Nat. Park
I went up to Mirror Lake last weekend, following a trail of color up the road. I started at the stables, intending to just shoot one dogwood next to the stables and next thing I knew, I was at Mirror Lake.

This image is an interesting contrast to a shot I have in my NPN portfolio.

(Sorry, but I don't know how to post the link instead.)

Harley, this one is a real shocker to see. Pretty dramatic view for us who have been to this site in years where it was completely full and filling its namesake.

WOW Harley....one image is worth a thousand words, as they say .....
Although I can't wait to see you print both of these side by side....
I was just there yesterday, Yosemite, not Mirror Lake, and thanks
Preston for the encouragement to make the trip ....
Had a gorgeous day with fog on the river and meadows in the AM and
"still" water...so tons of reflection along with the fog....
still yellow in the trees and shockingly still quite a bit of pink in the dogwood leaves with berries.
The day ended with a pink sunset of 1/2 Dome with a still reflection from
a beach that I don't know the name of....and the detours are crazy.
I wish someone would have a word with DNC....they are NOT touist or employee friendly it appears!
Anyway...yes, it was my 1st time like you to see The Yosemite Wall, as they are now calling the non-falls...
I'm glad you got this one Harley.....Hopefully it will only be a moment in history...
Not like the images of my favorite wall...that I just found out was where the landslide on140 was.
I was about to try to show my passenger where to pull-out during daylight and see this wonderful wall
and then we had to detour around it....So all of my images of it are now
part of history I guess..So I'm glad we are all out there capturing historic moments
and sharing them and enjoying nature....
thanks for sharing Harley.......................... :toast:

In gratitude,
Nelcha

Wow!

I remember when Mirror Lake was a 'lake' in the early sixties, then later it became a Mere Puddle, now it's a meadow. It is actually a classic demonstration of succession. I would imagine that it will be forested with young pines and oaks in a few short years. Nature is like that, you know.

Nelcha: I'm glad you had a good time. I was up at Kenedy Meadows, 6500' (Hwy 108) today and it was gorgeous. It was chilly in the morning, but warmed nicely at about noon. It was a nice day out hiking with a friend.

Thanks for sharing!

From http://www.yosemite.org/vryos/pages/views/mirror.htm:

As a final note, Mirror Lake is turning into Mirror Meadow (a natural process common with mountain lakes). It is only a "lake" in the spring and early summer. After that, it becomes "Mirror Puddle" then "Mirror Sandbar."
