Dominic had the right idea with going to Falling Water on Halloween, this was two days before on the 29th. It was clear and sunny that day and conditions were tough. I was able to get a few images I was happy with though, this is one of them.
It's not an ideal waterfall image, but considering the conditions I'm pleased. It was a wonderous day to be out and about in the Ozarks. I was fortunate enough to have my wife, both kids and good friends Wes Watkins and his girlfriend Kelly along. Even if the photo conditions weren't great, the time we had was!

Lately, I think some of us have had days very similar to your's Glenn. We've certainly had some gorgeous weather for a hike in the woods, but not so good for taking photographs... guess we have to make the best of the hand we're dealt. That being said, I'll be kicking myself for many years to come for making the bad decision to not go to the woods on October 19th. It was the kind of day that I've only dreamt about many times, and probably won't have a chance to experience again during my lifetime - the creeks were bank-full and running clear at the same time as peak color in the Richland Creek area, with overcast skies and little wind. I'm glad that Tim E. was able to get out and capture the beauty of the day for the rest of us to enjoy. But, man, it sure would have been nice to experience it firsthand - with a camera and as many flash cards as I could carry!
BTW, I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment about the placement of leaves in one of Dominic's images from Haw Creek Falls the other day. Maybe I've just seen too much of one photographer's work that posts frequently on the Flora board, who stages just about every image I've seen. From the large number of positive comments posted in response, there are obviously those who admire his work. But after awhile, so much of that style quits working for me - it's just the way I'm wired I guess. So, if I offended anyone, please accept my aplologies - I think the addition of elements to enhance a scene works well in lots of situations, and have practiced it myself in the past, and will probably do so again in the future. OK, I'll shut-up now...
Well, I see the struggle for good light happened to just about everybody. Glenn, I was fortunate to find this area in such good light and with just enough foliage hanging on to pop some color. I like the composition you've chosen, and I think you dealt well with exposure despite the conditions. It just goes to show how important light really is.
Bill, I certainly did not take offense to your comments about not placing leaves. In fact, I thought you complimented me for not doing it. I did post a "designed" image on the big board the same day, though that had nothing to do with your reply.

Glenn, I like what you've done with tough shooting conditions. It's a beautiful waterfall for sure. The negative space created by the overhang really grabs me on this one and won't let go. I'd suggest taking this to a pano and eliminating the upper 1/4 of the image altogether.
Photo contest huh? Sounds fun!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay been out of town AGAIN. Here today, leaving again this afternoon for a few days....
Anyway, thanks for the comments.
Wayne: Yep, the photo contest is shaping up nicely. I don't have all the prizes firmed up yet so I don't want to jump the gun, but will say there are some very cool things in the pot for the winners.
