Game lands anyone?
I was on my way to somewhere and just had an internal pull to go in another direction and found a public game land area that I liked so much I went back 3 more times this weekend! I went for a sunset but was too late as (duhh leann) the sun dipped behind the mtns an hour before actual sunset. So I went back again Saturday 90 minutes earlier had a great time shooting and noting what gets nice light and shadows etc etc and then went back again the next morning for sunrise( Knowing that legally there is no hunting on Sundays). There were no other vehicles in the parking area and I saw no one else out in the fields but there are food plots of bird seed plants(great avain spot) and alfalfa. Yes I startled deer and found spots trampled in tracks and also signs of coyote so I am already thinking ahead to after rifle season ends and how I may do some stake outs for wildlife. Does anyone one else use public game lands for photographic spots?

I love going to WMA's. There are several within an hour drive of where I live. They are not really hunted that hard around here....some do get pressure though...

Here is one of my butterfly images that came from Fairystone WMA.

Hey Darrin,
That's why I figured AFTER rifle season -Like I said There wasn't even anyone bow hunting but rifle season may bring out more people. Having said that I am still suprised that there was no one scouting for deer sign and habits.
I could see this place also being a butterfly oasis. Another WMA borders my local lake and that is where I see turkey quite often as they come down to the shore -butttt I never get a shot before the canon balls with wings take off

"Having said that I am still suprised that there was no one scouting for deer sign and habits. "

I suspect there are so many deer relative to the number of hunters that you can basically just show up and find a deer without much effort.

Yes that could be and would explain the saying"90% of the tags are filled by 10% of the hunters". I know people who have meat every year who start the planning process in the summer and people who don't even see a deer who just show up for the season. Just as an observer though the number of daytime sightings plummets when hunting pressure is on.

Around here, I see live deer most every day on the way to work. . . 3 fresh carcasses this week, too. Of course the bucks are a bit more scarce this time of year. . .
