Greylag Geese
Hi All

I have not managed much nature photography recently but I made up for it over the weekend with trips to Slimbridge on both Saturday and Sunday. As the weather was generally fine and bright I decided to spend some time trying for flight shots.

The Bewick's Swans, white fronted geese, wigeon, pintail, etc are yet to arrive in large numbers so I chose to stay inside the captive area and target the greylag, shelduck, pintail, tufted ducks, mute swans, and anything else that flew into range.

I thought I would post this shot of two greylags which did a flyby at eye level and gave me the chance for some side on shots. This is full frame width with some space cropped from the bottom. Possibly a slightly cramped composition, maybe it would work better with just the nearest goose on it's own, but overall I quite liked the angle on the two birds.

Canon 20D, 300F4 L, ISO 400, f8, 1/500th, eval metering -1/3rd, AI servo focus, panning with Manfrotto 190B tripod+393 gimball.

cheers

Sean

Very nice lots of detail nicely sharp, the out of focus 1 is fine with me as it doesn't distract your attention i feel.

Phillip.

This shot has a very dynamic feel to it, and works really well, thanks for sharing.

I had hoped to re-visit Slimbridge over the week end but ended up having to babysit :frown:

Very nice shot Sean. The OOF bird doesn't detract at all IMO. I do wish for a bit more room for them to fly into though. Minor nit. Lovely shooting angle

Hi Sean

Super shot, the OOF is fine and adds to the image - agree with Graeme re more room in front which is easily rectified!

Fantastic. I'd maybe just copy a slither from the bottom and stick it on top to give just a bit more room above and I think that would lessen the cramped feel.

Very good flight shot and having them at eye level is fantastic. The only nit is the OOF brown spot just to the rear of the geese. But otherwise superb.
