Folks,

Is there anything more disheartening than the grey days of November. Even if the fall color was less than expected, we are now in the interim period between the fall color and the onslaught of winter.

Let's keep posting shots and keeping the lines of communication open. There are lots of good photographers lurking here. post images and lets keep things going here in this forum. Les us all know what's going on in your neck of the woods.

Here in Ohio, we are in a warm sector for a week or so. No doubt than a month from now it will be white outside. I remember a month ago the color was just starting... now its gone for another year.

Make the most of what we have. I for one love looking at the images and posts here in this area.

Thoughts?

Good post Jack. My thought is that people could be more involved, there's usually many times more views than comments when people post. While I certainly know that many people don't have time, and that there's probably float over from others non regionals on NPN. However, there probably is a portion of people who could step up to the plate a bit more often as well. It doesn't take long to type a quick message or share something. This goes for posting too. I dunno, maybe I'm out of line and out of touch saying that.

Hey, rumor has it that you're (Jack) leaving the midwest for greener pastures. What's up with that! Mind sharing any details?

Joel,

I don''t think you are out of line at all. Any site like this is as good as its contributors. All we can do is encourage others to try & share experiences, images, tidbits etc and live with what we get. If you check out some of the other forums there is much more interaction between members. However, we do a pretty good job here in the MWNP area as a whole.

Yes the "rumor" is true. My wife and I are relocating sometime ( could be a month or could be longer) to the Pacific NW ( Portland Oregon area). She is from Seattle and has recently accepted a position with a company in Portland. I grew up in New jersey, went to college in Indiana (IU), lived in No Cal for 10 years, then outside Chicago for 5 years, now here in NE Ohio for 4 so moving doesn't phase me too much. The Pacific NW is a photographers dreamland, and I really love the Columbia Gorge and vicinity.

I will get back here a few times each year as my workshops here have become quite popular. (That could change in time since I won't be here to "promote" them like I have done.

I have made many many friends here on NPN will always be part of this forum as well as others. I consider myself a midwesterner at heart and that will not change!

Onward and upward!

Hate to see you go Jack but it sounds like your very happy with it so good luck. I will be looking forward to more of your wonderful images in the future. As for posting I will do my best but I coach high school basketball in Indiana and we are just beginning our season so most of my winter will be spent in the gym. But I am sure I will make time to post

Bernie, I coached JV basketball for 3 years and it does take up a lot of time. With the short days of winter and bb practice in the evenings your winter will fly by. I know my did. Are you a teacher as well?

I agree we all need to continue participating throughout the slow winter months.

Jack, make sure you get a big enough house for Kristy and I!

Jack, I'm hoping you will continue to run your workshops here in the fall. You and Linda will be missed.

As for November, I find it a good tme to get caught up on all those things that didn't get done while I was out shooting in October. Lots of images to sort through and maybe I'll even get my Web site up and running. Then there are always the distractions-- like the 8-point buck that wandered through my yard yesterday during lunch. He was gone before I could get to my camera, but it is now ready and waiting.

Josh I am not a teacher, I have just been an assistant the last 15 years coaching girls basketball, but it's actually thru basketball that I gained an interest in photography. Five years ago our girls team won the state championship and one of my players father shot the images for the team and the local paper. I always had a little interest in photography but never enough to commit to it, but this really helped send me over the edge and for the last three years I have really made a effort to better my skills and hopefully someday turn it in to more than a hobby

Jack,

I'm envious! I had my first trip out to PNW this summer (ONP, and the Bellingham area), and loved it. I'm hoping to go back next year.

As for posting, I've just been so incredibly busy doing shows, trying to get shows put together, and opening and promoting a new venture, CoBe Gallery, in a local art center with another artist. . .

I have about 3000 images from the PNW trip and a fall trip to the Canadian Rockies that I havent touched yet. Half of them I haven't even found time to download from my Epson P2000! I didn't take a single fall photo in Ohio this year, too many late nights printing and framing, or late nights at my real job. . . Fall just sort of sneaked past me.
