Hello. We are Bob and Glennie Covell (Perspectives Digital Imaging) Ottawa, Ont., Canada.

Been hanging around these discussions for a while and have been impressed with the level of maturity (grownupness  ) and professionalism that we've observed here. So, we decided to de-cloak and will soon be paying for a membership. The idea of an online portfolio is very appealing and, in time, we will be looking for objective opinions as to what images should be included. I find it very difficult to be objective about my own work.

However, for now we need suggestions re. web hosting for some non-nature type work. Although our hearts are in the bush with Mother Nature we have found that in order to pay the bills we have to take on some commercial contract and wedding work. We need a simple, tastful web page where we can post client proofs for them to view and decide what to purchase. Our ISP is a cable company and they don't offer server space with the account. I was thinking maybe Flickr but what do you think?

Thanks
Bob

Welcome aboard!

I can't speak from experience but to my eye the layout of sites like Smugmug and PBase appears more professional than Flickr. Just personal taste.

Thankyou Mr. Tal. You are right. Both sites that you mentioned are definitely more tastefully done than Flickr. PBase has better pricing and should suffice for all we really need.

Rest assured that Nature Photographers has both of them beat for the kind of work that really matters.

All of you guys are very gracious and we appreciate the warm welcome. From what I've been reading in the various discussion forums (fora?) NPN apears to be a mature place to hang with people of like interest. Glennie and I are not so presumtuous as to suppose that we come anywhere close to the quality of some of the photographers that we've seen here, but we are passionately in love with Mother Nature and we thoroughly enjoy photographing our little neck of the woods. My mentor and the one who has influenced my vision the most is Freeman Patterson.

We are looking forward to getting involved.

Bob
