Little Auk (wingflap)
Also here in Denmark we have an influx of Little Auks in many of the harbours. As Nigel mentioned in his Little Auk post, the problem with them is to get some decent colour in the water. After taking a few gigabytes of boring Auk-photos, eventually this little fellow went close to some stones at shore, and gave me a good opportunity

Later the bird and it's friend actually went ashore and started walking around in the parking place  I picked one of them up and put him back in to the water (to save him from the cars...) - they are just so unbelievable tame.

20D + 500/4; iso400, f5.6, 1/400. Cropped a bit from the bottom and the left for composition.

Hi Helge

An excellent capture, good eye contact, super detail in the whites, and I like the sense of movement with the wing blur and the water droplets. The levels and contrast look good to me as well so I promise not to download it and start adjusting it

I can't really find any nits with this shot, you have done well in the circumstances, and I agree you have some nice water texture which adds to the aesthetic appeal of the image.

Enjoyed your story about the car park too

Hi Helge

As I said to Nigel I have only ever seen these as small dots out at sea, so for me just to see one close-up would be good. I echo Sean's comments re your image - nice one!

Hello Helge
No nits from me either, a very pleasing capture.

Very well done, great exposure, eye contact and action, for web presentation I might have tried to just get a touch more detail in the whites on the breast, I'm guessing it is only the compression and that the full size file looks fantastic...

Hi Helge
great story which will help me when I try to have a go at photographing that species. We had approx. 300 of them in Aberdeen recently. Nice picture :toast:
