Parfrey's Glen
There are many places in the Midwest that are beautiful in the fall, and there are even a few in Wisconsin! This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago, at the first State Natural Area in Wisconsin, Parfrey's Glen. This place is favorite of about everyone in southern Wisconsin.

Tim, this has the same feel as the Ritchie Ledges from my part of the world (only on a larger scale). I'm assuming that that's a walking path in the LR? Had no idea Wisconsin had this kind of feature. Very nice.

Hi Chuck,

Yes, Wisconsin is more than prairies in the south (and cities, and roads) and lakes & woods in the north. There's an area in south central Wisconsin called the Baraboo Hills. It's actually (?) a former, small mountain range, I've heard, composed of quartzite, sandstone and conglomerates. There are several places like this in the area. In my repertoire in the portfolios site, there are a couple of photos that better show the hills (http://www.photoportfolios.net/portfolio/pf.cgi?a=vp&pr=33060&b=up&st=1&la=70&ph=27&sid=25590&pi=ILLUMINATAPHOTO&u=25590) as well as another site called Pewits Nest (http://www.photoportfolios.net/portfolio/pf.cgi?a=vp&pr=33066&b=up&st=41&la=70&ph=41&sid=25590&pi=ILLUMINATAPHOTO&u=25888). I hope that these links work! I'll also post a photo of Durward's Glen, which I took on the same day...

Oh, and that area in the lower right is a board walk, placed by the Wisconsin DNR (and occasionally removed by flooding).

Thanks,

Tim!

Looks like a cool place, the 6x17 format works well for your composition. I'm not sure that I care for the boardwalk, but that's how it is in reality, no doubt...so, what can you do.

I need to get over Wisconsin and check out some of these places. Pewit's Nest is on my list as well. Cool!

Very nice Tim, when I first viewed this I did not realize that was a boardwalk running thru the bottom part of your picture, that truly is a very impressive gorge and image as well. :toast:

Tim,

Nice idea with the pan affect. I'd try brighten the shadows on the left & right a bit and you have a winner. How about this image in snow!

Parfery's in the winter can be a real slip andslide - the boardwalk part is OK, but the rocks near the end of the trrail can be very slippery. There were reports of vandalism to cars parked this summer at Pewitt's Nest.
