I visited Apishapa Canyon on the southern plains Friday and made this image. This state wildlife area is east of Walsenburg and was completely deserted. The canyon and surrounding grassland makes this a place that I would like to re-visit in each season.

There's more canyon there than I thought there was. Very nice!

Just don't try to get there in the rain or when a recent snow is melting. 20 miles of dirt road turns to a lot of greasy mud.
Yes, that does sound like experience talking.

Keep saying I've got to do a road trip down there one of these days. Thanks for the photo.

Thanks for posting, Dave; I've never heard of Apishapa. I love the light on the distant wall and the foreground grasses; very nice!

Interesting area for sure, thanks for the posting this, I've been wanting to visit there for a number of years, but each time I've been in the area, it has been just after or during a rainstorm and I was hesitant to try the road due to the potential for greasy mud.
Are there any trails into the bottom of the canyon?
