Nice one Vince  Love the bg, colours, perch etc. etc. my only crit would be that on my monitor (and it may just be me) there is no detail in the black between beak and eye.

Hi Terry, yes you are right about the black area, my fault because I used neat image without looking at the detail when I saved it as web. The details there on the original  just shows doen't it, never rush images as you will miss the out the finer detail.

Thanks for bringing to my attention :toast:

Hi Vince, yes it always amazes me what I do not see in my own images that someone else will see immediately  Glad there is detail in the black as its a really good image IMO

A very good image Vince. Terrys comments just go to prove how much we have come to expect (and demand) from digital images. There would be no issue if this was shot on Velvia and projected the old fashioned way but we now expect far greater DR from our images highlights and shadows.

I think it's excellent Vince. The lack of detial in the black soesn't worry me in the slightest. I love the colour contrast between the Goldfinch and the bg

Hi Vincent
great capture of the bird in the rain :toast:

Superb image Vince, seems like photographing in the rain can really intensify the colours, we get plenty of rain around here so I think I might just give this technique a go!

PS have you noticed a drop in the numbers of birds visiting your feeders so far this season??
According to BBC Wildlife mag the glut of hips, haws and berries means that it will be a very quiet year around the bird feeders, mine are especially quiet just a few Blue Tits after the peanuts nothing's touched any of my apples or seed feeders for months

Great image Vince
The comments passed re the black area made me think I better get a new pair of glasses.
It does show you though as you so rightly put how easy it is to over look the odd thing.
Regardless of that its still a fine looking image. :toast:

Thanks for the above comments, Larry with regards to numbers of birds at feeders I have not noticed any difference to last year. Lots of berries in hedgerows & on trees yet plenty of birds on the feeders. :jump: Maybe the birds like me

On a serious note, all 4 feeding stations I have in position all are topped up about twice a week, birds visiting are the more common species such as Robins, Blackbirds, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long Tailed Tit, occasional Willow tit, Greenfinch, Goldfinch (No Bullfinches) & GS Woodpecker. Now looking at buying food in bulk for the winter.

Using the vehicle as a hide with the lens mounted internally between the centre seats & not sat on the window edge works well, in the rain it works well & is kept dry & if its dull I simply attach a flash xtender to light things up a bit, haven't used it for a while but looking at the weather coming up I mght have to.
