Salmon Leaping
Whilst returning from a holiday on Mull and Skye recently I stopped at the Philiphaugh Salmon Watching centre in the Scottish Borders and tried to get some shots of the salmon run which I have to say is one of the most frustrating things I have done recently!
Anyway this is one of the few images I got that was worth anything. It represents quite alarge crop from the original since I gave up with the 500mm and used my 70-200f4 so that I could even hope to catch anything. I have to say I am not sure about the crop. If anyone has suggestions about improving the image I'd be glad to hear them. The technical specs are:

- Camera: Canon EOS 1D Mk IIN
- Lens: Canon 70-200mm f4 L
- Aperture: f8 +1/3
- Shutter Speed: 1/800s
- ISO: 400
- Metering: Evaluative
- Exposure Control: Aperture Priority
- Camera Support: Handhld
- RAW Conversion: RawShooter Premium
- Post Processing: Levels, Curves, Contrast, USM

Many thanks for looking

Well I certainly find it a stunning image. I'm afarid I'm not a Photoshop expert so I'll have to leave it to others to offer advice on how to improve it!!

Great Shot Adrian I'd like the opportunity to shoot for them down in the Colonies, But we build fish ladders here for our fish to move upstream, not spoiled much are they.

Hi Adrian,

A very dynamic shot and very well timed. Great stuff.

Hello Adrian
I like your salmon image, we don't see many on here. I hope you don't mind, I played with the image in CS to get a little more out of it. Started with shadow/highlight tool, then increased saturation by 17, added contast to luminosity by 10, finally USM at 20,30,0.
Best wishes

Hi Adrian
a dynamic shot and I prefer the second posting. Was you in Auto-focus when you took the image? :toast:

John,

Yes I was in Autofocus as I couldn't have focussed fast enough manually I think

It depends really. On the day we were there about 20-25 but the river was in spate so there tend to be more apparently (so those who are wiser in such things tell me) - The viewing station is nice. It is an open space so you can move around. It is just a bit high though and in the morning the sun comes from the wrong angle but we were lucky - there was no sun and it was errr very cold.
