Hi Everyone,
This cheeky little chappy was photographed a few weeks ago in Derbyshire. Unfortunately most of these cute and adorable voles have been wiped out by the invasive American mink - even in their strongholds. I'm now researching new locations in and around London. There is a suprisingly healthy population in London supported by regular population re-introductions (funded by The Wildlife Trusts, bless them!) and fewer mink.

Shutter speed: 1/80 sec
Aperture: 6.3
Exposure compensation: -1/3

Hi Elliot,
Nice image. There is always the Lee valley park for the Watervoles because I don't think we get many Mink here. Were you in the water for this one?

Ugly little things Superb image and love the shooting angle. Don't know if the OOF stump on the rights distracts slightly?

Hi Elliott
Sweet pose - I'm not keen on the OOF stump but everything else looks really good!

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback, all appreciated. The 'stump' is part of a submerged log that ratty is perched on so couldn't really do anything about it. I took several shots with different comps to try and crop out the log, but it just didn't look right. This seemed to be the only shot where the composition balanced out.
Chris, I was on dry land for this shot (I leave 'vole fishing' in waders to Tom ). There was no vegetation between me and the log so I could just lay down with the tripod fully splayed.
Has anyone here ever been to the King's Meads Nature Reserve, Hertfordhsire?

Hi Elliot,
Locally, Kingsmead, Silvermead and the Cornmill meadow are the best sites that I know of for water vole. I have been to both Silvermead and Cornmill meadow and have certainly heard of numerous vole sightings, but never seen any.
