Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo). For some reason I have never managed to get close to a hovering Buzzard. Yesterday I finally found this cooperative young bird, who let me get a few close shots of it doing it's acrobatics.

Thanks for all the comments to my last post. In many of my posts I have had problems with the colours and darkness/brightness. This photo is unedited as I like the natural light, it's only sharpened and resized in PS. Photo was shot in Adobe98 and converted to sRGB. How does this look ?

Hi Helge
great action shot and the BG is nice. Have you tried SH. as the tail and part of the wing is black maybe you may get some detail.

Hi John, unfortunately I'm still on PS7.0 and they don't have the SH feature. I'm saving for a CS2 but also for a MarkIIN, so one day I'll have to make a difficule choice

Hello Helge
It is a great image, but I think it would benefit from some curves adjustment in PS. I appreciate what you say about the natural light, but as I said on another recent posting, the web presentation degrades the image so much that we have to compensate in PS - it is different if you are using as a print IMHO.
Best wishes

Another fine image Helge, John has already pointed noted my only nit - the lack of detail in the shadows.
I totally understand where you're coming from on the financial front - but hey - its only money!

Hi Helge,
Looks good from where I'm sitting, apart from its eye....looks to be very bright and almost unnatural.
We've a lot of young buzzards here behaving in a very tame manner.....perching on low branches and letting us come to within 7-8 m, hovering for prey almost overhead at about the same distance.......I put this down to the colder wet weather that we've had of late making them pretty desperate for food.
Great what turns up when I pack in the camera, but hey, the light here's cr*p anyway

I'd have the 1d2n anyday Helge. CS2's over-rated anyway
I've never got near to a Buzzard yet, very skittish around here, so I'd be well happy with this. Fom a purists perspective, would prefer in front of camera instead of past, but that's being picky. The comp and BG are superb.
