Obviously we have the Conference on the 7th Jan 07 - however we need to give some thought to at 4 (possibly up to 5) 'official' 'gatherings' with the aim of getting these set in the calender by the end of the year.
Remember, a 'gathering' is an event that has no associated costs (other than a token enterance fee and car parking costs), needs no minimum number (as some previous gatherings have had 3 member attendees), do not need booking ( because not everybody can give a long term committment to attend) and nobody attending/organising stands to fiscally benefit directly, or in kind, from the event. These requirements ensure ALL members and guests can attend a UKNP 'gathering'.
So, that said, where do you want to go, when (month) and can somebody volunteer on taking the lead on individual ones?
Some of the old suggestions -
Feb - WWT Slimbridge
March - WWT Martin Mere.
April - NT formnby
May - Gigrin
June - Butterfly house at Stratford...
Oct - Bradgate
December(ish) - Donna Nook
But lets think of some new ones and when that done I will set some dates.

Would anyone be up for a Skomer Island daytrip sometime around June/July? I'm thinking of doing this myself so if anyone wants to meet up I'd be very happy to meet you.

bit of a long shot, but if anyone wants to do a diving day on the coast of the isle of wight sometime between may and late july i could organise that without any problem. good for conger eels apparently.
also, i can organise a hare day on the island too. i know a good spot if anyone is interested.

How about considering mutiple venues on specific days, eg the Feb winter swan trip the "southern brigade" to take place at Welney same time as Martin Mere for the deep northerners and Slimbridge for the west country folk and have a best of the day competition.
Some of the distances to be travelled can be quite daunting depending on which end of the country you live - this may increase participation?
other ideas may be Brownsea Island vs Formby for a red squirel day
and early late april/early may migrant waders at Martin Mere vs Titchwell

Bempton cliffs on the Yorkshire coast would be good in June/July if anyone's interested in a few seabird shots.
