Greetings,

Has anyone tried Raw Therapee raw converter?

I just stumbled onto it today and haven't tried it yet. It's free, it's feature list looks interesting, and, best of all, it's available for Linux as well as Windows.

I'm curious if anyone has any comments on it.

Thanks,

I downloaded it it and tried it, but found it VERY slow and unwieldly. It does have some nice features, but I found the negatives far outweighed the postives. I currently use Capture 1 for most conversions and ACR for a few. I saw nothing in real world images that made me want to switch. It's worth trying just to satisfy your curiosity.

I concur...I tried another 3rd party RAW converter 18 months ago and met the same problems....slow, slow, SLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW.
Best to "pay-up" and get the camera makers software....they've got you "locked in".

Mark,
Just to satisfy my own curiosity I tried another conversion this morning, comparing Raw Therapee to ACR & Capture 1. I converted the same image, using basically identical settings, and there was no comparison IMO. C1 was vastly superior to both ACR and RT. In some aspects RT was better than ACR, but not so in others. Workflow in RT is horrible - EXTREMELY slow and cumbersome, and VERY FRUSTRATING. None of the frustrations were due to not being used to it, just due to very poor design and execution. To me it makes no sense trying to skimp on such an important process because your RAW conversion controls what your final output will look like to such a large extent.

Thanks for your time and efforts on this. I'm not terribly sophisticated when it come to digital imaging so comments from folks who are more experienced are very valuable. Too bad this product isn't there yet.

When I saw an article about RT yesterday I looked at the feature list on their web site and my first thought was "I wonder if this is any good". My second thought was "How would I know ?" So I thought I'd ask here at NPN.

I really appreciate the time and effort you spent on it.

Thanks,
