according to those that know here in ecuador, this year we are to experience an el nino. we have already had constant heavy rain for the last two weeks here in quito, which is unusual, and we wait to see if it worsens especially on the coast.
the peak usually happens around christmas here, and i'm due to go to galapagos in january, where the last severe one wreaked havoc, so it will be interesting to say the least.
i can't remember what after effects happened in the uk during the last one, which apparently was in 97. i think it rained a lot if i remember rightly.
anyway, would be interested to hear if anyone has heard anything on uk media re this and any effects that happen hereonin.
regards,
m

Hi Mark, nothing yet in the UK media to my knowledge (but I don't read the comics, er papers), but we wouldn't expect to be taught that weather patterns are cyclical and natural and related to ocean currents, geological processes and solar activity. Here in the UK, any climate change is supposed to our fault so that we surrender yet more freedoms and pay yet more taxes!
Be careful mark, weather isn't photography related
