I"m going to be in the Table Rock Lake and Branson Area for a family thing in early December. I've never shot in this area and was wondering if anyone had any favorite spots to shoot. Not looking for any shot in particular, just to get out and away from the city for a while. :wavey:

Hey Joey,

Check out Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery below Table Rock Dam. This is a popular site for black vultures gathering to roost during the winter. In the morning, they hang around the hatchery hoping to get a free meal. Follow the road just left of the hatchery parking lot that goes to a Lake Tanneycomo parking area. You can easily photograph them with a 70-200 mm lens or longer in a large sycamore tree or along the water's edge. Also, the largest and most diverse glade complex in the Midwest is located at Henning Conservation Area and Natural Area. Drive west on Hwy 76 out of the Branson strip and look for a sign and entrance on the right. There is a large parking area and trails. There won't be anything blooming or crawling around this late in the season but it is scenic and the prairie grasses should have some color. Check it out for future photo ops.

I did the acquisition work on this area back in the 80s. It was formerly owned by Paul Henning, producer of the Beverly Hillbillies. He bought the land to film some of the TV stories there but never made it that far East.

For more information:
Check out http://mdc.mo.gov/ and click on the link on the left hand side that says "How can I find Conservation Areas near my home?" Then click on Conservation Atlas Database in the text. Under MDC Region, click on Southwest Region, then click "Find" and scroll down to Henning Conservation Area and then Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery. Both have area maps and brochures.

Best,
Don
