One of you kind folk just remind me when you switch off IS with this monster. also what are the 2 settings 1 and 2 for? How well do people get on attaching a 1.4 converter to this lens?

Thanks Dean. I've a feeling that some people say using IS when the camera is stable degrades image quality. Anyone got any views on this?
Hi, I have the 500L IS and my manual says on page E-12...
"Set the stablizer to off when taking pictures with a tripod. Even if the Stabilizer switch is on the IS function does not operate because electronic circuits in the lens automatically detect that a tripod is being used. However because electrical power is being supplied to the stabilizer unit the number of available shots is roughly 20% lower than it would be with the switch set to off"
so I always use mine switched on in mode 2 "just in case" :)
